Dental Line Maintenance Assistant
TOOLS
OpenManipulatorX, Raspberry Pi, ROS, Aruco Tag based localization
When considering how robotics can be applied to different fields I became interested in how robotics can support varying medical scenarios. After surveying recent work in the space, I recognized an opportunity for robotic arms to support dentistry. A series of interviews led me to conceive of a robotic arm designed for supporting hygienists in the task of flushing dental water lines, a simple yet critical task in ensuring the prevention of infection via water lines. The arm performed a pick and place application leveraging an OpenManipulatorX driven by a Raspberry Pi running ROS. A camera was used for detecting a localizing the tools and sink target with the help of Aruco tags.
